Internet Crimes / Computer Crimes

Twin Cities Internet Crime and Computer Crime Attorney

The internet has created new criminal offenses or created new opportunities to commit old crimes. Many offenses ranging from possession or distribution of child pornography to aggravated identity theft involve the internet. The federal government has sophisticated computer labs that can restore images that were deleted from one's hard drive.  In these cases, expert testimony may be necessary to recreate the key strokes that were made on a computer.  In this way, it may be possible to show that the images in question were downloaded automatically by a bot rather than selected illegally by the owner of the computer.  Computer analysis can also be used to determine when the images were downloaded so that an alibi defense can be explored.  These are complicated areas that require creativity and expertise to defend them properly.
